Rockets to waive C Camby on Monday, will have surgery Friday

The Houston Rockets will waive center Marcus Camby on Monday.

Camby is dealing with a torn plantar fascia, an incredibly painful injury with a very variable timeline. He was hoping to avoid surgery to return quicker, but it seems like surgery will be a more obvious choice now.

At 39 years old, Camby was not expected to contribute much on the floor this season. When you consider that the Toronto Raptors are on the hook for his salary and that he could still sign with the team later in the season, the move makes sense for Houston.

There is also speculation that, if he should retire from active play, Camby could stay with the organization in an instructing role.

UPDATE: Camby will have surgery on Friday.
