Rudy Fernandez: (Back) Should Be Ready to Play in Olympics

Fernandez (back) is expected to be cleared to participate in all basketball activities within the next two weeks and be ready to play for Spain in the 2012 London Olympics this summer, FIBA.com reports.

Fernandez underwent back surgery in March and returned to Spain for rehab prior to the end of the regular season. He'll be a restricted free agent this offseason, and he's said that he'd be fine returning to Europe if an NBA team doesn't step up to offer him what he considers a good contract. Fernandez will also probably want some assurances that he'll get regular minutes after he's clearly voiced his frustrations with having what he's considered reduced roles on his teams in the past. The Nuggets will have the right of first refusal on any contract he's offered from another team, so he'd likely have to receive a strong offer to keep the Nuggets from matching any offer he receives. With his rehab coming to an end, just how much a team is willing to offer Fernandez will likely depend on how healthy and effective he can prove he is during the Olympics.
