Michael Jordan could apparently play a role in the making of "Space Jam 2."

ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported Wednesday that there have been discussions about bringing Jordan on board, but that his "level of involvement is to be determined." McMenamin also noted that "Space Jam 2" isn't considered a sequel.

SpringHill Entertainment announced Wednesday that "Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler will produce the highly anticipated follow-up to the 1996 movie "Space Jam," and confirmed LeBron James will star in the lead role alongside Bugs Bunny.

James' business partner, Maverick Carter, told Marisa Guthrie of The Hollywood Reporter he hopes there will be a role for Jordan.

"We'll see," Carter said when asked about a Jordan cameo. "Hopefully there will be a role for Michael if he wants it. But Michael Jordan is Michael F----in' Jordan. It doesn't matter (if James) calls him, he's gonna do whatever the hell he wants, which he has earned that right to do."

Carter added, "LeBron and Michael are not sitting around talking about 'Space Jam.'"

Jordan, of course, starred in the original movie.

Production on "Space Jam 2" is expected to begin in 2019 during the NBA offseason.
