Luke Babbitt News

Babbitt was a sparse contributor for Portland in 2011-12 until the final month of the season, when he became a legitimate threat from downtown.

Babbitt finished his sophomore season appearing in 40 of 66 games while averaging 5.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.1 treys in 13.4 minutes of play. His numbers were bolstered, though, following the trade of Gerald Wallace to New Jersey and Kaleb Canales' installation as interim coach on Mar. 15. Babbitt struggled to find a foothold in the first five games under Canales, but he ended the season hitting at least one three-pointer in 17 of his final 18 games. During that stretch, Babbitt averaged 1.9 treys en route to 8.7 points in 22.4 minutes. He even earned four starts at the end of the year for the injured Nicolas Batum. An offseason filled with summer league action and weight training should help Babbitt enter the Blazers' rotation for good as one of the pure jump shooters the NBA has to offer.
