The NBA is losing one of its most familiar voices to retirement. Phoenix Suns broadcaster Steve Albert is hanging up his microphone, the team announced Tuesday.

Albert has been the Suns' play-by-play man for the last five seasons. Prior to that, he spent 13 years as the voice of the New Jersey Nets, five seasons as an announcer for the Golden State Warriors, and one year with the New Orleans Hornets.

A member of the legendary New York broadcasting family that includes brothers Marv and Al, and nephew Kenny Albert, he also covered the New York Mets, New York Jets, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils.
