The Phoenix Suns will give general manager Ryan McDonough at least one more season to see through his vision for the franchise.

The Suns intend to honor the final year of McDonough's contract for the 2017-18 campaign, sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes.

Phoenix has missed the playoffs in all four seasons under McDonough's watch, and the direction of the franchise has rarely been clear. The Suns had postseason ambitions following a 48-win season in 2014, only to flame out in the three years thereafter which pushed them toward rebuilding.

What remains of the roster is a confusing mix of expensive veterans and green rookies. The Suns have shipped out productive pieces in Goran Dragic, Channing Frye, and Isaiah Thomas, and replaced them with dead-weight contracts like Brandon Knight and Tyson Chandler to complement an intriguing group of prospects.

But McDonough at least has some hits on his resume. Haynes notes that one saving grace has been the selection of Devin Booker, who averaged 22.1 points per game this season as a 20-year-old sophomore. The Suns also have a 19.9 percent chance at landing the first overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
