Lowry battling back stiffness, expects to play in Game 5

USA Today Sports

The Toronto Raptors might be in trouble.

Starting point guard Kyle Lowry skipped Monday's shootaround because he's dealing with back stiffness, but he's still expected to suit up for Game 5 against the Milwaukee Bucks, according to The Athletic's Eric Koreen.

Lowry's health has been a concern this season, with the 31-year-old missing 21 games following the All-Star break after undergoing wrist surgery. Since returning, he's played in Toronto's past eight games, split between the regular season and playoffs.

The All-Star submitted a woeful performance in Game 1 against Milwaukee, registering just four points on 2-of-11 shooting (including 0-of-6 from long range) to go along with six dimes, two boards, and two steals in an embarrassing 112-94 home loss.

Lowry's had better outings since, particularly - and not coincidentally - in Toronto's two victories, but overall his numbers are down from the regular season.

G PTS ASTS REBS FG% 3FG% STLS +/-
Regular season 60 22.4 7 4.8 46.4 41.2 1.5 +6
Playoffs 4 14.3 4.3 3.8 40 25 1.5 -4.5

The No. 3 Raptors will need more from their floor general in order to make it out of this series, which is currently tied 2-2.

Should Lowry ultimately sit out Game 5, point guard Cory Joseph figures to start at the one-spot. It's worth noting, though, that the Toronto native reportedly seemed under the weather Monday, but insisted he'll "be fine."

Delon Wright could also receive increased minutes at the point, while coach Dwane Casey may even call on Fred VanVleet if Lowry or Joseph are unable to play.

Oh boy.
