Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki: Will be rested for season finale Wednesday

Nowitzki will be held out Wednesday against the Grizzlies for rest purposes, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.

Analysis:

Nowitzki wrapped up his season in Tuesday's 109-91 loss to the Nuggets, finishing with 21 points (9-20 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal across 27 minutes. With the Mavericks eliminated from playoff contention, there's no real reason to have the aging veteran play in the second game of a back-to-back set, so he'll given the night off. After missing time due to injury early on in the season, Nowitzki was able to stay healthy for much of the second half and finished with avearages of 14.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 three-pointers and 1.5 assists across 26.4 minutes per game. While retirement talk figures to surround Nowitzki again this offseason, the team holds hold a $25 million option on the 38-year-old that it would likely exercise if he agrees to come back.
