The Charlotte Hornets have picked up the 2017-18 option on general manager Rich Cho's contract, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.

Cho has served as the Hornets' GM since 2011, a tenure that has included some of the highest highs and lowest lows in the franchise's modest history. In 2011-12, the then-Bobcats posted the league's worst-ever winning percentage when they went 7-59, but made the playoffs two years later, and last season compiled the team's best record (48-34) since its re-genesis in 2004.

Though the franchise doesn't have an obvious path to contention moving forward, it's in a far better place than it was when Cho joined the front office, and Cho has helped usher in a stable core anchored by point guard Kemba Walker, swingman Nicolas Batum (who signed the biggest free-agent contract in franchise history last summer), and head coach Steve Clifford.
