Mavericks' Wesley Matthews: Sitting out Tuesday vs. Kings for rest

Matthews will sit out Tuesday's game against the Kings for rest purposes, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.

Analysis:

Since the Mavericks are officially out of the running for playoff contention, coach Rick Carlisle will aim to monitor the workloads of his veterans over the team's final six contests. Matthews will get the night off on the front end of a back-to-back set, and could be joined on the sideline by any of Harrison Barnes (rest), J.J. Barea (rest), Dirk Nowitzki (Achilles) and Seth Curry (shoulder), who are all listed as questionable. Matthews had seen 33 or more minutes in each of the Mavs' last eight contests, so he could certainly benefit from the time off. It wouldn't be surprising if Carlisle opted to hold out the swingman again for one game of the team's final back-to-back set of the season April 11 and 12, but look for Matthews to return to action Wednesday against the Clippers after sitting Tuesday.
