Derrick Rose suffers torn meniscus, will miss rest of season

USA Today Sports

New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose has suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Sunday.

Rose is expected to take six-to-eight weeks recovering from the injury, league sources tell The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Knicks are working with Rose to schedule a scope on his knee in the near future.

The news comes as a surprise, as Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek told reporters prior to Sunday's contest against the Boston Celtics that Rose was recovering well, and suggested that he could even be ready for the following game.

It is the third time Rose has torn his meniscus, although the first two instances were in his right knee. It's the fourth major knee injury of his career.

The injury could not have come at a worse time for the 28-year-old, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The 6-foot-3 guard has put up solid stats for the Knicks this season, averaging 18 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.7 steals on 47.1 percent shooting.

Rookie Ron Baker should see plenty of action for the rest of the season with only two healthy point guards remaining on the roster.
