David West looked a long way from retirement Wednesday night, when he went for 15 points, four rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and a game-high plus-24 rating in the Warriors' big win over the Spurs.

When the 36-year-old power forward is finally ready to hang up his sneakers, though, his former coach apparently has a job for him.

Orlando Magic bench boss Frank Vogel wants West to join his coaching staff once he calls it quits on his playing career, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe.

Vogel coached West for four seasons in Indiana, a run that saw the Pacers win seven playoff series and twice reach the Eastern Conference finals - with West starting every game.

He's a deep reserve now for the Warriors, but, as he showed Wednesday, he can still have his moments, and remains one of the game's savviest, most cerebral players. His counting stats are modest, but on a per-36-minute basis, West is putting up some numbers (6.4 assists, 1.9 steals, two blocks) that would easily be career highs.

Vogel, who has had a tough first year with a mismatched roster in Orlando, could use all the help he can get.
