The Western Conference playoff race is beginning to heat up, and Damian Lillard is doing everything in his power to ensure the Portland Trail Blazers remain in the thick of it.

With the Blazers just a game back of the Nuggets entering Sunday, Lillard sent text messages to both Anthony Davis and former teammate Tim Frazier, asking them to make sure the Pelicans beat Denver in the Mile High City.

The message seemed to have its desired effect, as the Pelicans blew out the Nuggets 115-90, helping to push the Blazers into the No. 8 spot in the West.

"They both said, 'I got you,' so I guess they’re a man of their word," Lillard jokingly told Cody Sharrett on NBA.com following the Blazers' victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Portland will have the opportunity to extend its lead on Tuesday, when the Blazers host the Nuggets at the Moda Center.

"It’s on our home floor, in front of our home crowd, an opportunity to move a game ahead of them, take the tiebreaker outright with them if it comes down to the last game," Lillard said. "A lot of things on the line in this game … We’re ready for the challenge.

"Now that we’ve gotten here in the driver’s seat, we gotta take it home."
