Kings' Ty Lawson: Denies accusations of probation violation

Lawson appeared in court in Denver on Thursday and denied allegations that he violated the terms of his probation stemming from his 2015 DUI conviction, Jesse Paul of The Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

Denver court records alleged that Lawson violated probation by testing positive for alcohol on two occasions back in September 2016 and once in February 2017, but Lawson and his lawyer refuted those claims, instead asking that the 29-year-old be monitored by an alcohol testing device before appearing in court again in six weeks. That timetable means that Lawson likely won't be in store from any punishment from the league before the season concludes, but since his contract is set to expire this summer, it wouldn't be surprising if Kings coach Dave Joerger elected to phase the veteran out of the rotation in order to evaluate younger guards signed beyond 2016-17. Lawson is averaging 8.0 points, 5.0 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per game over his last six appearances and doesn't offer much appeal outside of deeper leagues.
