76ers' Joel Embiid: Set to undergo knee surgery

Embiid (knee) will undergo surgery in the coming few days to repair the partially torn meniscus in his left knee.

Analysis:

The Sixers didn't release an exact date for the surgery, but it sounds like it will happen at some point later this week. More details surrounding a timetable for a return are expected to be released following the surgery, so we'll likely have to wait to see if it's something that could linger into training camp next fall. Embiid has already gone through two foot surgeries and is no stranger to a lengthy rehab, but he'll likely spend yet another summer going through the long process. In his absence, Jahlil Okafor (knee) could start when healthy, but his recent injury has allowed Richaun Holmes to pick up the bulk of the workload and thrive at center, so the two will likely now be stuck in a timeshare.
