USA Today Sports

His Houston Rockets didn't get the victory, but James Harden was once again dominant in Friday's contest against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The five-time All-Star set the record for the most 40-point triple-doubles in a single season with six, passing fellow point guards Russell Westbrook and Oscar Robertson. The 27-year-old finished with 41 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists in the 128-112 defeat.

It was the 18th triple-double of the season for Harden, and the 27th of his career.

Harden also became just the third player to collect 2,000 points, 600 assists, and 500 rebounds in multiple seasons, joining Robertson and John Havlicek.

The 6-foot-5 guard has built a strong MVP case in his eighth NBA season, averaging 28.9 points, 11.3 assists, eight rebounds, and 1.5 steals for the third-seeded Rockets.
