Jose Calderon: Expected to join Hawks

Calderon is expected to sign with the Hawks after clearing waivers Saturday, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Calderon was waived by the Lakers on Monday and was initially scheduled to sign with the Warriors for the rest of the season upon clearing waivers, but that plan fell through after Golden State ruled out Kevin Durant (knee) for multiple weeks when he was injured in Tuesday's game. The Warriors still honored their agreement to sign Calderon on Wednesday and pay him what he would have received for the rest of the season, before immediately waiving him to use their 15th roster spot on free agent Matt Barnes. Calderon is once again in limbo while he waits to clear waivers, but it appears the Hawks, who only have two true point guards on the roster in Dennis Schroder and Malcolm Delaney, have a need for his services. Calderon, who averaged 3.3 points, 2.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game over 24 appearances with the Lakers, will likely serve as the Hawks' third-string point guard and figures to be excluded from the rotation more often than not.
