Bulls' Isaiah Canaan: Could have contract bought out

Canaan is a candidate to get waived by the Bulls in the coming weeks, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis:

The Bulls are overloaded at both backcourt spots, and with neither Canaan nor Michael Carter-Williams (knee) shaping up as rotation options at this stage of the season and both on expiring deals, it would make sense for Chicago to let one of them go in order to address depth at another position. Canaan may be the more vulnerable of the two players in losing his roster spot, as he's appeared in just eight of the Bulls' last 32 games and lacks the overall upside of Carter-Williams, a former Rookie of the Year winner who has had a handful of productive outings this season. Even if he's ultimately released and quickly lands a roster spot elsewhere, it seems unlikely that Canaan will find his way into meaningful minutes, given his status as an undersized guard who is shooting a lowly 27.3 percent from three-point range on the season.
