Report: Calderon will sign with Warriors after being waived by Lakers

The stage is set for Jose Calderon to join the league's best team.

The Los Angeles Lakers announced Monday they've waived the Spanish point guard, who will sign with the Golden State Warriors, sources told Shams Charania of The Vertical.

It was reported Sunday that the Dubs were the favorites to land the veteran point man. Golden State released Briante Weber to make room on the roster for someone else to play behind superstar Stephen Curry and Shaun Livingston.

Calderon has played sparingly in L.A. after being traded to the Lakers last summer. He has career averages of 12.3 points, eight assists, and 3.2 boards per game over 12 campaigns.

The 35-year-old should clear waivers before the March 1 deadline, and therefore be eligible to suit up in the playoffs for the 49-9 Warriors, who are expected to go on another deep postseason run.

The Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers were also believed to be interested in Calderon's services, though the latter instead signed Deron Williams.
