Nets waive Marcus Thornton

Brad Mills / USA TODAY Sports

The Brooklyn Nets have waived shooting guard Marcus Thornton after acquiring him from the Washington Wizards earlier this week.

Brooklyn was forced to open up a roster spot after reportedly landing swingman K.J. McDaniels in a trade with the Houston Rockets prior to Thursday's deadline.

Thornton appeared in 33 games for the Wizards this season, averaging 6.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on 40 percent shooting. The 29-year-old has played with seven different teams throughout his NBA career, averaging 11.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in 483 games.

It remains to be seen how many teams will be interested in signing Thornton, who has struggled to see regular rotation minutes over the last few seasons.
