Cousins admits he, Davis tried to recruit each other before trade

Thanks to a trade that's rocked the basketball world, DeMarcus Cousins is joining forces with Anthony Davis on the New Orleans Pelicans.

As it turns out, the pair of former Kentucky Wildcats had discussed playing together in the NBA well before the transaction was made official Monday.

Boogie admitted Wednesday that he and AD tried to recruit each other in their previous matchup on Feb. 12, when Cousins led the Sacramento Kings to a 105-99 victory over the Pels.

The 26-year-old had been the subject of trade rumors for some time, as the Kings failed to muster up more than 33 wins in a campaign, or make the postseason in Cousins' six years, despite his All-NBA efforts. He's set to hit free agency after next season.

Meanwhile, Davis - who's locked up through 2020-21 - indicated he had no intentions of leaving the Big Easy to make that union happen.

"I was never going to Sacramento," he told reporters, as quoted by ESPN's Justin Verrier.

And so, The Brow got his way. He's understandably over the moon about forming the league's most fearsome frontcourt tandem, which Cousins has dubbed "Fire and Ice."
