Report: Rockets have expressed interest in Shumpert, Cavs in Beverley

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets have expressed some interested in acquiring Iman Shumpert from the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein, who also reports that Cleveland would want back Patrick Beverley in a deal.

However, the Rockets have no plans to trade Beverley, according to ESPN's Calvin Watkins.

The flurry of reports followed another one by The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski that indicated the Rockets are motivated to make a deal for a player in the $10 million to $12-million annual salary range. Shumpert will make $9.7 million this year and is due $10.4 million next season.

With the trade of Corey Brewer in the Lou Williams deal, Houston could be in the market now for a wing player who can defend such as Shumpert. At the same time, Beverley is a good defender with playmaking capabilities, in accordance with LeBron James' wishes in Cleveland.

Stein added that the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls also have interest in Beverley.
