Brewer believes Rockets wouldn't have traded him if he made more shots

Corey Brewer regrets not shooting better this season.

The veteran's reportedly being traded from the Houston Rockets along with a draft pick to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for guard Lou Williams.

Brewer doesn't want to leave the Rockets, though, and thinks if his shot had been more consistent, he wouldn't have to.

"If I was making shots, I would probably still be here, you never know," Brewer said after Tuesday's practice, as quoted by ESPN's Calvin Watkins. "I love Houston I don't want to leave but I have no choice. I hope my shots starts falling with the Lakers."

The 30-year-old's averaging a career-low 4.2 points on just 41.4 percent shooting from the field and 23.4 percent from beyond the arc. That just wasn't cutting it for Houston, and although Brewer knew the team wanted to add some more firepower, he didn't think it meant he'd be on the way out.

"I was surprised," he said of the trade - the fourth of his decade-long career. "I wasn't expecting to be moved. Teams are trying to makes moves at the deadline. (Houston) wanted another scorer and they made the trade. I respect their decision."

He joined the Rockets during the 2014-15 campaign, and will earn $7.6 million next season.
