Clippers' Chris Paul: Plans to re-sign on long-term deal

Paul has reached a verbal agreement with the Clippers to re-sign with the team on a new long-term contract this summer, Tim Daniels of Bleacher Report reports.

Analysis:

While the Clippers could be at risk of losing Blake Griffin in free agency this summer, it appears the team will be able to keep their other star in the fold. Paul carries a $24.2 million player option for the 2017-18, but he's expected to decline the option and take advantage of the likely league-wide salary-cap increase, which will be determined once the new collective bargaining agreement goes into effect during the offseason. The terms of Paul's reported deal with the Clippers aren't known and won't be official until he puts pen to paper in July, but he's expected to earn more than $200 million with the new contract.
