'Good vet': Rubio passed up late free throw to help Wiggins get 40

Ricky Rubio can't help but drop dimes, even when his teammates are taking free throws.

Andrew Wiggins was sitting on 39 points with a minute left in the fourth quarter of the Minnesota Timberwolves' 112-99 victory over the Denver Nuggets when Nikola Jokic committed a technical foul.

Typically, it's Rubio - the 87.5 percent shooter from the line - who takes the freebies, but on this occasion he yielded to allow Wiggins (75.3 percent) to reach 40 on the night.

"He let me have it," Wiggins told Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune. "Ricky, he’s a good vet."

The selfless gesture allowed Wiggins to hit the 40-point plateau in consecutive games, helping him join the likes of Kevin Durant, Allen Iverson, and LeBron James to accomplish that feat before the age of 22.
