Report: Kings strongly considering Pelicans' package for Cousins

USA Today Sports

The tumultuous DeMarcus Cousins-Sacramento Kings relationship might finally be reaching its conclusion.

The Kings are strongly considering a trade package from the New Orleans Pelicans consisting of 2016 No. 6 pick Buddy Hield and two first-round picks for Cousins, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Kings controlling owner Vivek Ranadive will have the final say on two trade proposals presented to him by general manager Vlade Divac, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

The Kings are seeking future assets like young talent, draft picks, and expiring contracts instead of established talent in return for Cousins, Chris Mannix of The Vertical adds. The reported offer from New Orleans fits that description.

Earlier reports from Sunday suggested that the Pelicans and Kings were engaged in trade talks, although Cousins' agent tried to quiet that rumor by relaying a message from Divac that no trade would emerge.

Cousins only played two minutes in the All-Star Game and didn't make a single appearance in the second half. He was subsequently grilled by a host of reporters hoping to collect reaction about trade rumors. He stayed mum, but did admit to his annoyance in being yanked away from the moment.

It was just two days ago when Cousins said he was very happy in Sacramento and that he wished to stay long term with the designated player extension worth $209 million over five years.
