Anthony Davis named All-Star MVP after record-setting performance

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

If it wasn't already known before Sunday night, New Orleans is Anthony Davis' town.

The Pelicans big man treated his home fans to a historic performance, earning All-Star Game MVP honors after pouring in an All-Star record 52 points.

Davis, an All-Star for the fourth consecutive year, broke Wilt Chamberlain's 55-year-old record of 42 points.

Davis knocked down 26 of his 39 attempts, which included 18 dunks. The uni-browed 23-year-old also collected 10 rebounds and two steals in his game-high 31:50 of action.

The fourth quarter started with the MVP award in serious question, as Russell Westbrook and Giannis Antetokounmpo provided stiff competition. At one point in the final period, a scoring error incorrectly credited a James Harden 3-pointer to Westbrook, which temporarily gave the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar 44 points and the All-Star scoring record.

The mistake was quickly corrected, however, and Davis, who was stuck on 38 points at the time, went on to outscore Westbrook 14-0 the rest of the way.
