Report: Kings have talked to Pelicans, others about trade involving Cousins

All the talk of extensions is just that; talk.

The Sacramento Kings have engaged teams on trade discussions surrounding franchise center DeMarcus Cousins, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

Wojnarowski relays that the Kings have shared discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans, but as always, Sacramento's front office remains split on Cousins' future.

It's unclear as to what the Pelicans could realistically offer, outside of Anthony Davis, to entice the Kings. Any trade package would likely need to start with No. 6 pick Buddy Hield and several future assets.

This comes on the heels of Cousins proclaiming that he was happy in Sacramento, and that he was interested in staying on long term. The three-time All-Star was likely alluding to reports that the Kings were preparing a six-year, $219-million extension offer this summer.

He would not be eligible for that extension if he were traded. Conversely, if Cousins signs the deal, the Kings could not trade him for at least one year after signing.

Cousins is averaging 27.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists along with 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks in his seventh season.
