76ers' Joel Embiid: MRI reveals minor tear in meniscus of left knee

Embiid (knee) has a minor tear in the meniscus of his left knee, but surgery won't be required, Derek Bodner of USA Today reports.

Analysis:

The 76ers first discovered the small tear in Embiid's knee after he underwent an MRI on Jan. 20, but the fact that Embiid was able to return to the court to play Jan. 27 against the Rockets suggests the team doesn't view it as a major issue. Instead, the left knee contusion appears to be the bigger worry for Embiid, who will sit out Saturday's game against the Heat, marking his 11th absence in 12 games. At this point, it appears safe to expect Embiid to remain sidelined for the 76ers' final two games before the All-Star break, though the team is still evaluating the 22-year-old on a day-to-day basis. Until Embiid gets back on the court, Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel will share the duties at center.
