Thomas, Curry named NBA Players of the Week

USA Today Sports

Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics (East) and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors (West) have been named NBA Players of the Week for games played from Jan. 30 through Feb. 5, the league announced Monday.

Boston went undefeated at 4-0 with victories against the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, and both the Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers. Thomas led the Association in scoring during that stretch with 37.8 points per game along with 6.8 assists, all while connecting on nearly 50 percent of his field-goal attempts (49.4).

The biggest win undoubtedly came against Toronto, which helped propel the Celtics past their division rival to take over the East's second seed. The two-time All-Star point guard had 44 points that night in 37 minutes of action.

Golden State didn't go unblemished, finishing 2-1 after Saturday's frustrating overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings. Despite a costly blown layup that night, Curry still put forth a spectacular performance with 39 points, nine dimes, four boards, and three steals.

In total, the reigning back-to-back NBA Most Valuable Player ranked near the top of the West in most statistical categories, including first in both scoring (34.3) and steals (three).

Other nominees for the honors included Yogi Ferrell (Dallas Mavericks), James Harden (Houston Rockets), Jeff Teague (Indiana Pacers), Hassan Whiteside (Miami Heat), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs), Gordon Hayward (Utah Jazz), and John Wall (Washington Wizards).
