A handful of Kobe Bryant memorabilia was stolen from a display case out front of the Kobe Bryant Gymnasium at Lower Merion High School, according to an email sent to the parents of students.

Principal Sean Hughes, as well as the school's athletic director Don Walsh, said a game-worn jersey was taken, along with the trophy commemorating the 1996 PIAA Boys Basketball State Championship, and a handful of signed shoes Bryant donated to the school over the years.

The value of the items isn't what the school is worried about, it's about what those items signify.

"While the items from the case are not of significant monetary value, they do have a great deal of sentimental importance," the email said. "They represent a wonderful time of accomplishment, unity and pride for our school community - the 1996 state championship - and celebrate an alumnus who has made lasting contributions to our school and the sports world."

The burglary is currently under investigation as Lower Merion police are reviewing surveillance footage from both inside and outside the school.

The threat of game-worn jerseys being stolen seemed to be a running theme on Sunday. Tom Brady suffered a similar fate when the jersey he wore during the Patriots' Superbowl win seemed to grow legs and walk right out of his locker.
