Thomas, Curry, Durant named Players of the Month

The NBA named its Players of the Month for January.

Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas took home honors in the East, while Golden State Warriors teammates Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant shared honors out West.

Thomas averaged a league-best 32.9 points per game in January along with 6.9 assists to lead the Celtics to a 10-4 record. That run, coupled with some turbulence from the Toronto Raptors, allowed Boston to climb into second in the East. The Celtics are now quickly closing in on the floundering Cleveland Cavaliers for first place.

Curry and Durant, meanwhile, led the Warriors to a 12-2 record, good for tops across the NBA. Curry averaged 27.8 points while Durant tailed him closely at 27.4 points. Both players were also named starters for the Western Conference in the 2017 All-Star Game.

Other players who received consideration included Atlanta’s Paul Millsap, Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Houston’s James Harden, Indiana’s Paul George, Miami’s Goran Dragic, Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid, Phoenix’s Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker, Portland’s CJ McCollum, San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard, and Toronto’s Kyle Lowry.
