Report: Baron Davis seeks opportunity to land roster spot with Cavaliers

Debby Wong-US PRESSWIRE

Word of the Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly holding a workout Wednesday to find the playmaker LeBron James covets has gotten out to a former two-time NBA All-Star guard.

Baron Davis, 37, wants that open roster spot on the Cleveland Cavaliers, believing he could fill it and fill it well for the reigning champions, according to USA Today's Sam Amick.

The issue, though, is that Davis hasn't competed in the league since the 2011-12 campaign when he was a member of the New York Knicks. With that said, Davis reportedly feels he could get himself back into game shape if he had two weeks to prepare his body.

The former third overall pick was present in the Cavaliers' locker room to chat with James following the team's 126-91 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 16, according to The Washington Post's Tim Bontemps.

Mario Chalmers (a former teammate of James on the Miami Heat), Kirk Hinrich, and Lance Stephenson are all scheduled to take part in the workout.

Davis spent 13 seasons in the Association with five different organizations, including a 15-game stint with Cleveland in 2010-11. He had career averages of 16.1 points on 40.9 percent shooting, 2.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.8 steals.

His last taste of basketball came in the Developmental League last year with the Delaware 87ers, putting up 12.8 points and 3.5 assists per game in six appearances.
