Report: Jazz contacted NBA to get Joe Ingles in 3-point competition

Joe Ingles' sharpshooting could land him in the Three-Point Contest during All-Star weekend.

The Utah Jazz have reached out to the NBA in hopes of securing an invite to the shooting competition for the 29-year-old Aussie, a source told Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune.

As the league leader in 3-point accuracy, Ingles certainly deserves consideration. He's scoring 6.6 points per game on 48.1 percent shooting from the field and 46.1 percent from deep, where he attempts 61.7 percent of his shots.

It appears the third-year swingman had a change of heart about the long-range shootout.

"They can put someone else in," he told Aaron Falk of the Salt Lake Tribune last month. "I'll happily watch from the sidelines."

Should Ingles secure an invite and accept it, he'll head to New Orleans to try to succeed Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson as the 3-point champ on All-Star Saturday night Feb. 18.
