D'Antoni unhappy with Rockets' travel schedule: It's been ridiculous

With Friday's 125-108 home loss to the Golden State Warriors, the Houston Rockets have now lost four of their last six. And with their next five games on the road starting Saturday, head coach Mike D'Antoni isn't pleased.

"I'm sure every coach is saying this, but our schedule's been ridiculous," D'Antoni said, according to FOX 26's Mark Berman. "We play tomorrow night in Memphis. That's eight games in 12 nights. That's ridiculous. I could send everyone home, probably should, but I don't believe that, and hopefully they'll fix it."

Prefacing things by pointing out that the Rockets traveled back and forth to China for two preseason games, D'Antoni took issue with the regular-season schedule that has had his team crisscrossing North America.

"One week to Orlando to Toronto, then New York to Miami," he said. "I don't know why we couldn't play two in Florida and two up north. We're flying all over the place."

D'Antoni is referring to a scheduling oddity, where the Rockets played in Orlando and Toronto on the weekend of Jan. 6, returned home for one game, flew to Minnesota, returned home for another, then flew to New York to play the Nets, only to go back to Florida to play the Heat.

"We got a little sickness here and there," D'Antoni added. "We're banged up a little bit."

That was clear against the Warriors, where Ryan Anderson left after playing nine minutes due to a bad flu. He will not be making the trip to Memphis.

To compound matters even further, the Warriors were reportedly forced to stay in Houston Friday night due to a tropical storm hitting the Gulf Coast. That could also mean that the Rockets would be unable to fly out as well until game day, with their tipoff in Memphis at 7 p.m. CT Saturday.
