Lue: Draymond's foul on LeBron was trying to 'send a message'

USA Today Sports

Beyond the fact that the Golden State Warriors thoroughly dissected the reigning NBA champions in a Finals rematch Monday, the big takeaway from the game was Draymond Green's flagrant-1 foul on Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James during the midway point of the second quarter.

Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue still isn't sure whether the contact was "dirty" on not, but he feels certain that Green had an agenda on the play.

"Was it a statement? I think so," Lue said following Wednesday's practice, according to Cleveland.com's Chris Fedor. "He didn't want to let LeBron get in the open court and get a dunk or layup and he took a hard foul. He wanted to try to send a message to our team."

Green mocked the four-time league Most Valuable Player in front of the Oracle Arena faithful afterwards, flailing his arms and legs around if to say James got away with a flop.

Cleveland veteran Richard Jefferson was also assessed a technical foul for getting into it with Green in an attempt to stick up for his teammate.

James later shrugged off the foul, telling the media that he was OK because he was "a football player." Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said it looked like a normal foul, while Kevin Durant questioned how the officials could rule it a flagrant at all.

The Warriors and Cavaliers split the season series at 1-1, and will only meet again should they both reach the Finals for a third year in a row, something that's never happened before.
