The Minnesota Timberwolves are actively shopping point guard Ricky Rubio, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

Shabazz Muhammad has been attached to Rubio as a sweetener in several trade offers around the league.

Minnesota is seeking another option at the point to bridge the eventual transition to promising lead guard Kris Dunn, who was selected fifth overall last summer.

The Sacramento Kings have shown interest in Rubio, but there hasn't yet been traction on a deal between the two sides, Wojnarowski notes. Minnesota is hoping for a better return than what Sacramento has to offer.

The 26-year-old Rubio is a gifted passer and solid defender, but he needs the ball in order to be most effective. It's been difficult to get Rubio touches when the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, and Karl-Anthony Towns also demand the rock.

The development of Minnesota's prospects has taken precedence over Rubio, which in turn has led to career-worst numbers for the Spaniard. Rubio is averaging 7.6 points and 7.9 assists per game while shooting an abysmal 37.3 percent from the floor and 24.7 percent from deep.
