Boogie vows to release R&B album if voted All-Star starter

USA Today Sports

DeMarcus Cousins wants to be an All-Star starter so badly that he'll belt out some sweet tunes if it happens.

"I think I can sing," the Sacramento Kings center recently told CBS Sacramento's Carmichael Dave.

"You know what, I got a deal for everybody. You guys make me a starter in this year's All-Star Game, I will release my R&B album. And it won't be an April Fools' joke this time."

In 2014, "Boogie Smooth" said he'd drop an R&B album called "Misunderstood," but it ended up being a prank.

The 26-year-old gold medalist might need the boost, as he's facing an uphill battle against Zaza Pachulia, who's fetched more than double the votes (449,675 to 202,317) Cousins had in the first returns of fan voting.

Boogie called himself an "underdog" versus the Golden State Warriors big man from Georgia, saying sarcastically, "You know he's a better player than me right now."

Cousins, who's averaging 28 points, 10 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.4 steals, is more than deserving of his third consecutive All-Star nod - unlike Pachulia. However, he doesn't believe he's a lock for the showcase in New Orleans.

"You never know, you know how these things go," he said. "You never know. And it's me, you never know."

The Kings are doing their part by making a serious push on social media to muster up votes for their best player. During the interview with Dave, Cousins voted for himself.
