Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: MRI shows no structural damage

Smith (knee) underwent an MRI on Tuesday, which revealed no structural damage to his left knee, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports.

Analysis:

Smith tweaked the knee during the second quarter of Monday's win over Toronto, forcing him out of the game in obvious discomfort. While an X-ray at the arena came back negative, Tuesday's MRI results are still a major relief for the Cavaliers, who are already lacking experienced depth in the backcourt. Cleveland is officially calling Smith day-to-day for the time being, and his status for Wednesday's matchup with the Knicks in New York is unclear. However, it seems rather unlikely that Smith would play in what's ultimately a fairly meaningless regular season game for the Cavaliers.
