Lakers' D'Angelo Russell: Cleared for on-court workouts

Russell (knee) has been cleared to resume on-court workouts, but he won't travel with the team to Houston for Wednesday's matchup with the Rockets, Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Analysis:

With Russell hitting the end of the two-week break for rest that the Lakers had prescribed for him to heal up from the sore left knee, doctors determined Tuesday that the point guard had shown enough improvement with his condition to begin testing things out again. While it amounts to encouraging news for Russell, coach Luke Walton acknowledged that the Lakers still don't have a definitive timetable for the second-year player's return, and it's "not probable" that he'll return to action Friday against the Suns or Sunday against the Knicks, according to Medina. That would leave the Dec. 12 game against the Kings as the earliest possible date for a Russell return, though it should become more clear as the week wears on if that's a realistic target.
