Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: Initial X-rays on knee negative

X-rays on Smith's left knee came back negative Monday, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Smith, who exited Monday's game against the Raptors in the second quarter with the injury, appears to have avoided any structural damage, but he'll likely still be examined more carefully over the next few days. The veteran shooting guard is averaging just 7.8 points per game on the season while shooting 31.1 percent from the field, and the news of the injury may be the impetus fantasy owners need to drop Smith. If Smith ends up sitting out the Cavs' next game Wednesday against the Knicks, Iman Shumpert and Mike Dunleavy would likely assume the bulk of his playing time.
