Draymond: I've never used marijuana, but I support Kerr's stance

Draymond Green isn't all that bothered by how Steve Kerr chooses to medicate.

Green rushed to the defense of the Golden State Warriors head coach, who admitted in a recent podcast with CSN Bay Area that he used marijuana "twice" to treat debilitating back pain.

"When it first hits the surface everybody is against it," Green told reporters during Saturday's shootaround. "As you read into it more you figure out more stuff, then people kind of adjust to it. I can't say I've ever read into it much - I've never been a guy who's done it, period - so I can't say that I know much about it. ...

"You read Steve's comments, and it makes a lot of sense. You look at something that comes from the earth, any vegetable that comes from the earth, they encourage you to eat it.

"So I guess it does make a little sense as opposed to giving someone a manufactured pill that, like, if something takes away your pain the way some of these pills do, it can't be all good for you."

Piercing back pain kept Kerr away from the bench for the first 43 games of last season. His condition led him to seek relief from remedies other than pain medication, which he considers more harmful than marijuana.

"I'm not a pot person; it doesn't agree with me," Kerr said. "I've tried it a few times, and it did not agree with me at all. So I'm not the expert on this stuff. But I do know this: If you're an NFL player, in particular, and you've got a lot of pain, I don't think there is any question that pot is better for your body than Vicodin. And yet athletes everywhere are prescribed Vicodin like it’s Vitamin C, like it's no big deal. ...

"It's way worse for you than pot, especially if you're looking for a painkiller and you're talking about medicinal marijuana, the different strains what they're able to do with it as a pain reliever.

"I think it's only a matter of time before the NBA and NFL and Major League Baseball realize that."
