Lue takes J.R. to task for 'embarrassing moment' vs. Bucks

No surprise here: J.R. Smith was summoned for a sit-down meeting with head coach Tyronn Lue after making a mindless gaff in Tuesday's inexplicable loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Smith was fooled into greeting veteran guard Jason Terry on the visitor's bench instead of playing defense on an inbound play. His error directly led to a free dunk for the player he failed to defend in Tony Snell.

"It was an embarrassing moment," Lue told ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "Me and J.R. talked about it. We're just going to move forward. We had a discussion about it, he felt embarrassed about it. It was an embarrassing play. We talked about it. We're moving on."

Smith initially played off the incident by pleading ignorance after the game, but eventually admitted his error to reporters after practice on Wednesday.

"Obviously we both know it wasn't intentional, but it was just a lack of focus," Smith said after Wednesday's practice. "One of the multiple things that compounded onto the loss was just as a team we haven't been as focused as we previously were."

The change of mind was brought upon by Lue, who called out Smith's postgame attitude and questionable attire (he wore a ski mask).

"It wasn't right," Lue said. "I talked to him about that also. There's no need for that. Just address the media in the right way, move on. We got our butts kicked (Tuesday) night. Give Milwaukee credit, they came out, they attacked us, they beat us. Now we've got to move on."
