Report: Grizzlies interested in Cole with Conley out

Derick E. Hingle / USA TODAY Sports

The Memphis Grizzlies have expressed interest in free-agent point guard Norris Cole, now that Mike Conley is expected out for six weeks, reports Basketball Insiders' Michael Scotto.

The rumor makes sense given that Grizz coach David Fizdale was an assistant with the Miami Heat for several seasons, including when Cole played there.

The only other point guards on Memphis' roster are rookies Wade Baldwin IV and Andrew Harrison, and the latter is more of a combo guard.

Cole last played in the NBA for another injury-ravaged squad - last season's New Orleans Pelicans. In 45 games he averaged 10.6 points and 3.7 assists, before signing in China this season.

Other free agents who are expected to try out for the Grizzlies include Toney Douglas, Kendall Marshall, and Will Bynum, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
