Hawks' Splitter out 6 weeks with calf strain

The injury bug has bitten Atlanta Hawks center Tiago Splitter again, with the center still yet to play a single game during the 2016-17 regular season.

Following an MRI exam, the 31-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 right calf strain that will keep him sidelined for at least another six weeks.

The injury is related to the hip surgery he underwent back in February and the Grade 2 hamstring strain which has kept him out of action most recently.

Splitter averaged 5.6 points and 3.3 rebounds on 52.3 percent shooting over 36 appearances prior to going under the knife earlier in the year.

"There is nobody more disappointed than me," Splitter told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution following his hamstring diagnosis. "I'm tough. I'm tough. Maybe the first day I was sad but the next day I'm already positive and thinking about positive progress each day. That is the mindset you have to have when you are injured."

He's making $8.25 million this season and will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
