Grizzlies' Randolph takes leave after mother dies

Zach Randolph will take some time away from the Memphis Grizzlies after his mother passed away on Thursday.

Grizzlies coach David Fizdale said he told Randolph to take as much time as he needs, according to Michael Wallace of Grizzlies.com.

"We've got to take care of our brother. Losing his mom on Thanksgiving was devastating, for him and all of us," Fizdale told reporters Thursday. "My message to the team was make sure we keep our hands on him, surround him with love, support. Know that if it was switched around he'd do the same for us, because he's such a great guy, such a great teammate."

Randolph, serving in a reserve role for the first time since his injury-shortened 2011-12 season, is averaging 14.2 points and 7.9 rebounds in 15 games off the Grizzlies' bench.
