Lakers' D'Angelo Russell: Ruled out for 2-to-3 weeks

Russell will require a platelet-rich plasma injection on his sore left knee and miss two-to-three weeks, Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum SportsNet reports.

Analysis:

The Lakers had already ruled Russell out for a second straight game Wednesday against the Warriors, but perhaps in an effort to get ahead of the knee injury and ensure it doesn't become a recurring issue, the point guard will receive more proactive treatment, with the recovery timetable meaning that he'll miss several more contests. Russell will be reevaluated once he's one week removed from the injection, after which he could be cleared to resume working out. While the second-year player is out, Jose Calderon should continue to start at point guard, but the veteran won't necessarily be in line for huge minutes night to night. Instead, sixth man Jordan Clarkson is expected to take on the bulk of the duties at the position, with fellow backcourt players Nick Young and Lou Williams also perhaps set to assume larger roles offensively.
