Mavericks' Williams to return vs. Celtics

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

After sitting the last four games with a left calf strain, Dallas Mavericks point guard Deron Williams told reporters that he will "give it a go" on Wednesday night against the Boston Celtics, according to Mavericks.com's Earl K. Sneed.

"I've been out for the last four games, so I've been dealing with some things," Williams said. "But I should be alright tonight."

Williams took part in Tuesday's practice in some 3-on-3 drills, with his calf seemingly responding well.

Dallas went an even 2-2 without the 32-year-old in the lineup, although the team is currently riding a two-game losing streak after falling on the road to both the Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks by 21 and 16 points, respectively.

In five appearances this season, Williams is averaging 15 points on 41.5 percent shooting from both the field and perimeter, along with 5.8 assists and 0.8 steals in 35.4 minutes of action.

It's unknown whether head coach Rick Carlisle will bring him off the bench at first to slowly transition him back into a starters role. J.J. Barea would move back to the second unit if that's not the case, while Seth Curry's minutes would likely decrease as a result.
