Warriors shoot down rumors that Thompson is available for trade

The Golden State Warriors have a good thing going with their quartet of All-Star talent leading the way, and have zero intention of breaking up that core before it even has a chance to compete for a championship.

Rumors circulated on Monday that the Warriors were making "Splash Brother" Klay Thompson available for trade, although they were eventually refuted by the reporting source as simply being a misunderstanding on their part.

Golden State came out shortly thereafter to further shoot down the notion that Thompson is on the trading block, according to USA Today Sports' Sam Amick.

The 26-year-old sharpshooter is finding it more difficult to put the ball in the basket early in the 2016-17 campaign, especially from behind the arc. Thompson is connecting on just 31.9 percent of his 3-point attempts, which is 10.9 percentage points lower than what he converted a season ago.

He's locked in for the next two seasons on a fairly reasonable contract, peaking at a touch under $19 million in 2018-19. Thompson is scoring less, but he's still taking the same amount of shots as he's accustomed to, and that's with four-time scoring champion Kevin Durant now in the fold.

Golden State holds an 8-2 record, good enough for second in the Western Conference. There's still plenty of basketball left to be played, and it's more than likely that Thompson will shoot himself out of his current slump and return to form in the not-too-distant future.
