Report: Holiday plans to make season debut next week

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday is planning to make his season debut next week, league sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Holiday could play as early as Wednesday versus the Orlando Magic, but he's expected to be back for Friday's matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, Wojnarowski reports.

The 26-year-old took a leave of absence in September after his pregnant wife, Lauren, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and forced to undergo surgery.

Holiday's return couldn't come at a better time, as the Pelicans are in dire need of another player who can generate his own offense.

The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 16.8 points, six assists, three rebounds, and 1.4 steals on 43.9 percent shooting in 65 games last season.
